Egypt’s strategic commodity reserves sufficient, some near one year’s supply – presidency

Egypt has sufficient strategic commodity reserves to meet domestic consumption needs for extended periods, with stocks of some goods approaching one year’s supply, the presidency said after a meeting chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday.

The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and senior government officials, reviewed Egypt’s food security system, strategic commodity production and distribution, and reserve levels amid ongoing regional developments.

According to a presidency statement, strategic commodity stocks remain sufficient to cover local consumption needs for safe periods, with reserves of some commodities nearing a full year of demand.

Sisi stressed the importance of increasing self-sufficiency in strategic commodities, maintaining adequate reserves to support market stability and help balance prices, and strengthening partnerships with the private sector, the statement said.

The meeting also reviewed efforts to enhance the production, procurement, and distribution of key food commodities as part of Egypt’s broader strategy to strengthen food security and ensure the continued availability of essential goods.
