Egypt’s ‘supergiant’ gas field production to start in 3 years – Minister

Gas production at the newly-historic-discovered gas field of the Egyptian coast will start in 30 to 36 months, oil minister Sherif Ismail said Monday.

Italian energy group, Eni announced Sunday that it had found one of the world’s largest natural gas fields off Egypt’s coast. It said the area was 1,450m (4,757 feet) beneath the surface and covered 100 sq km (39 sq miles), saying Zohr field “could become one of the world’s largest natural-gas finds” and “will be able to transform the energy scenario of Egypt,”.

The gas find could hold as much as 30 trillion cubic feet of gas, or 5.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent, Eni said.

Drilling works on Zohr field have started on June 28.2015, the Egyptian minister in an interview Monday at CBC Extra channel.
