Egypt’s telecom firms lose million subscribers in August

Egyptian telecom firms’ mobile phone subscribers fell 1.11 percent, or 1.07 million subscribers, to 95.29 million in August from 96.36 million last year.

The number of subscribers slashed by 4.23 percent, or 4.21 million last August, according to a recent report by the Egyptian communication and information technology ministry.

Subscribers of the landline service rose by 2.86 percent month-on-month and by 25.8 percent year-on-year in August, reaching 7.89 million, the report revealed.

Internet users via mobile phones increased to 33.91 million in August, compared to 33.15 million users a month earlier.

Meanwhile, the USB modem users in the North African nation reached 3.39 million last August, compared to around 3.44 million in July and 3.28 million users in the same month last year, the report indicated.

Moreover, the ADSL users amounted to 6.08 million, compared to nearly 5.99 million last July and 4.92 million in August 2017.
