Egypt’s unemployment rate remains stable in Q2 at 7.2%

Egypt’s unemployment rate during the second quarter of the year remained unchanged from the previous quarter at 7.2 percent, the country’s statistics agency CAMPAS data showed on Monday.

The number of unemployed individuals in Egypt recorded 2.151 million during the April to June percent, a slight increase of 0.3 percent from 2.145 million in the first quarter of 2022.

According to the CAPMAS report, there are 1.25 million unemployed males and 901,000 unemployed females as of the second quarter of the year, with the age group between 15 and 29 years old – having the highest rate of unemployment at 61.3 percent.

In urban areas, the unemployment rate reached to 10.6 percent, slightly up from 10.5 in the first quarter.

For the countryside, the rate reached 4.5 percent, remaining stable in both the first and second quarters.

Employment Rates

According to CAPMAS, the employment rate rose 0.3 percent in the second quarter. The total number of employed people in Egypt reached 29.985 million in the second quarter, compared to 29.895 million in the first quarter.

The labour force in urban areas reached 13.191 million people from 16.794 million in the countryside. The number of employed males rose to 24.850 million from 5.134 million females in the second quarter.
