El Sewedy Electric, DB Schenker to build Egypt’s high-tech logistics centre

A subsidiary of Egyptian cable maker El Sewedy Electric has teamed up with the Egyptian unit of Germany’s DB Schenker to build the first high-tech logistics centre in Egypt.

With investments worth 100 million Egyptian pounds ($5.5 million), the new centre is expected to start operations in December, El Sewedy Electric subsidiary said in a statement on Wednesday.

The new project includes a giant warehouse covering more than 14,058 square metres to offer storage services and areas for value-added services and temperature-control freight shipping needs, said El Sewedy Electric chief executive Ahmed El Sewedy said.

The new centre will also comprises truck waiting areas covering 6,000 square metres in addition to 22 loading bays with a capacity of 3.5 tonnes, El Sewedy added.
