Europe Stocks Up; U.S., U.K. On Holiday

European stock markets moved higher in early trading on Monday, but action was expected to be limited by holidays in both the U.K. and the U.S., where markets will be closed. In Asia, Japan stocks finished 3.2% lower amid yen strength.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.3% to 304.27, with banks higher across the board. Shares of Vivendi SA rose 2.9%. Reuters reported Friday that Gulf telecom operator Etisalat offered a higher price for Vivendi’s Maroc Telecom stake over rival Qatari bidder Ooredoo, citing persons with the matter.

The German DAX 30 index rose 0.6% to 8,352.23, while the French CAC 40 index rose 0.8% to 3,989.15.
