European stocks waver as coronavirus remains in focus

European stocks wavered Thursday as markets react to developments related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 bounced either side of the flatline in early trade and was up 0.2% by mid-morning, with oil and gas stocks jumping 4.6% while utilities fell 1.8% to lead losses.

Global markets are reacting to news Thursday that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. surpassed 200,000 Wednesday, doubling since Friday.
