France halts direct flights to and from Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh on Russia crash

France has decided to halt all direct flights to and from Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh amid the Russian plane crash a week earlier, the French presidential administration announced in a statement Thursday.

“The consequences of the Russian plane crash in the Sinai desert on October 31 have been assessed. All measures to ensure the safety of the French people are being taken. From now on, there are no direct flights between Sharm el-Sheikh and France,” the statement reads.

On October 31, an Airbus A321 operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia, crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. All 224 people on board were killed in what has become the largest civil aviation disaster in Russian and Soviet history.
