French NGE to build 330 km high-speed train line in Egypt

French construction company, NGE has announced said on Thursday that it signed a contract to construct a 330 km high speed train line to connect the Red Sea Port at Sokhna to Borg Al-Arab near the Mediterranean port in Alexandria.

The project will be implemented by NGE subsidiary TSO as it will extend 600 more km to reach Marsa Matrouh on Egypt’s North West coast, according to the French company’s statement.

In May of 2022, the Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels signed a contract with Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction, and Arab Contractors to build high-speed railways that run around 2,000 km, becoming the sixth largest network in this field.

Egypt is planning to build another line from Cairo to Luxor, in addition to a third line that will go between Luxor and Hurghada on the Red Sea coast.

NGE has refused to disclose the contract’s value, adding that the project was awarded by Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors, the statement mentioned.
