Furniture Council plans raising Egypt’s exports by 66% in 4 years

Egyptian Furniture Export Council (EFEC) targets rising furniture exports by 66 percent to hit 5 billion Egyptian pounds (US$563 million) within the coming four years versus 3 billion pounds in 2016.

EFEC Chairman Ihab Derias stated Wednesday that the council finished paperwork for boosting furniture sector exports including many suggestions notably submitting 13 documents by the exporter that determine container price.

He added that the paperwork also included most competitive privileges of the sector and what it could achieve after getting an effective support from the state.

Derias stated that furniture sector is vital for national economy as it is one of the prominent sectors that witnesses rabid growth rates in production volume beside attracting more investments.

Moreover, the chairman clarified that furniture industry is a labour-intensive one since it encompass around 120,000 facilities, seizing 13% of industrial manpower. Accordingly, the sector could participate in solving state’s unemployment crisis.
