German economy minister urges tax relief for companies

German Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister Robert Habeck called for tax relief and incentives for companies, in an attempt to strengthen the country’s competitiveness, Reuters reported on Sunday.

“I also see that overall, we have corporate taxation that is no longer internationally competitive and investment-friendly enough,” Habeck told WELT AM SONNTAG.

This plan is considered one way to take pressure off companies that are facing numerous challenges, including high energy costs.

Habeck’s suggestion had not been agreed upon, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Sunday. “The idea was surprising in every way.”
