Grenade detonation kills Egyptian in Libya

An Egyptian working Libya was killed on Saturday after he accidentally detonated a hand grenade in the western city of Zliten, reported Egyptian state agency MENA.

Eyewitnesses and a government official told MENA that the slain was at a location allocated for Egyptian workers.

Last week, Egypt suspended travel to the neighbouring countrydue to worsening political unrest.

Since the 2011 revolution that ousted autocrat Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan authorities have struggled to combat brigades of former rebels and Islamist militias who have easy access to weaponry.

Libya is a major destination for Egyptians seeking work abroad. According to a 2010 report by the International Organisation for Migration, some 1.5 million Egyptians were working in Libya at the time of the uprising against Gaddafi.
