Gunmen Kill Policeman in Egypt’s Nile Delta

Egypt’s state news agency says gunmen opened fire on a traffic police patrol in the Nile Delta town of Benha, killing one policeman and wounding three others.

MENA said the gunmen fired on police from a flyover early Sunday before fleeing, adding that a police car was damaged. It said an investigation has been launched to determine the identity of the attackers.

Egyptian security forces increasingly have come under attack since the 2013 ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and the fierce crackdown on his supporters.

Many of the deadliest attacks have been claimed by a Sinai-based organization that has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, and by another group calling itself Ajnad Misr, or Soldiers of Egypt.
