Hassan Kamel: 20% Deficit in Rice, Citizens Should Bear It

Dr Hassan Kamel, Head of the Food Industries Holding Company (FIHC), unveiled that the deficit of rice reached 20%.

Kamel, in his statements to “Amwal Al Ghad”, said the last bid of rice in May reaches 90.000 tons of rice, while Egypt’s monthly need of rice is 110.000 tons; therefore there is a deficit in rice.

He elaborated that the holding company is asked to provide 60.000 tons while the private sector is asked to provide 60.000 tons. But after the private sector withdrew from the bid, objecting on the specifications, the FIHC is demanded to bear the whole bid. The company is only capable of providing 90.000 tons of rice.

Kamel has called on the citizens to bear the relative deficit in the commodities; referring that Egypt is facing hard conditions since the revolution erupted and all people should help in restoring the stability in order to provide the commodities.
