Housing Ministry to Meet Old Rent Opponents

Eng. Nafisa Hashim, Housing and Public Utilities Sector’s head at the Ministry of Housing, stated that the committee formed by the Ministry to consider the proposed amendments to the old rent law will hold a meeting on the 9th of next October with representatives of the old rent law opponents association.

Hashim noted that she had met with Eng. Ashraf ElSokkary, Head of the  Association, Eng. Amr Hegazy, General Coordinator of the Association, and a number of other members. She pointed out that they will all receive formal invitations for attending the meeting to be organized by the committee next October. The meeting will include a presentation on the draft law prepared by the committee, in addition to any other views or proposals in this regard. Tenants or their representatives will also be allowed to express their opinions.

The Ministry seeks to reach legislative solutions that establish a balanced relationship between the landlord and the tenant, in addition to being consideration to underprivileged tenants.

She further emphasized that the Ministry’s data base comprise all proposals and views as well as a number of draft laws concerned with this file. The committee will hold an open session for those interested in declaring their opinions on the amendments before submitting them to the parliament for approval.
