Images of deceased Syrian boy ‘a wake-up call’; says Egypt’s FM spokesman

Egypt’s foreign ministry spokesman posted a reaction on Twitter Friday to images of the lifeless body of a three-year-old Syrian boy which washed-up on a Turkish beach last week.

“The images of a drowned Syrian child on the Turkish coast are heartbreaking. A wake-up call to end humanitarian suffering in Syria,” Ahmed Abu Zeid, foreign ministry spokesman, posted on Twitter a few hours ago.

Twelve Syrian migrants drowned on Wednesday when two boats sank in Turkish waters as they were heading towards the Greek island of Kos, in the latest tragedy to hit migrants in the Aegean.

But attention has focused on three-year-old Aylan, whose tiny body was photographed washed-up on a beach in the resort of Bodrum in an image that quickly became a viral symbol of the tragedy of refugees.
