Implementing Austerity Measure May Stir Protests Against Egypt’s Morsi

Mohamed Hamed, Secretariat of the Economic Committee, at the Salafi’s Al Nour Party, said he is all for the deflationary policy through carrying out short-term measures of austerity to protect the budget deficit.

In his statements to “Amwal Al Ghad”, Hamed asserted that the government has to consider the political states in the Egyptian street before implementing any austerity measures. It is not logically that the government imposes increases in taxes, while there are protests that call for deposing the president, as this procedure may rouse anger against the president and paves the way for a new revolution.

Hamed has called on Dr Hesham Kandil’s cabinet to consider well the procedures that may have direct reflection on the street and choose the suitable timing to implement these procedures.
