Infinix partners with SICO to start smartphone manufacturing in Egypt

Shenzhen-based Infinix said on Tuesday it had started manufacturing its smartphones in Egypt after signing a cooperation agreement with Egyptian firm Sico Technology.

Under the new agreement, the new production lines to assemble smartphones will start up at Sico’s facility in the Assiut technology zone.

This makes Infinix the first global manufacturer of smartphones to launch production lines for its products in Egypt, and the second mobile factory in Egypt after the Egyptian company Sico Technology.

The Sico-E plant in Assiut is equipped with SMT lines with all CNC equipment and related testing equipment. It is set to have a line of wavelength welding lines along with three SKD lines with related mobile phone testing services and calibration equipment and devices.

These new production lines are operated through 300 engineers, technicians, and workers. The Sico plant’s output capacity amounts to 6,000 4G smartphones with 4K resolution.

Infinix said that it had been studying the opportunities before making this investment decision. The company said it was encouraged to take this step by the Egyptian government’s support for the electronics industry, and the presidential initiative to manufacture electronics, which was launched in 2016.
