Japan grants $135mn to upgrade Egypt’s Damietta power sector

Japanese government granted 1.2 billion Egyptian pounds (US$135 million) to upgrade Automatic Power Control system (APC) in Egypt’s Damietta governorate, governor Ismail Abdel Hamid stated Friday.

Through this grant, power sector in Damietta is expected to witness a leap in automatic control system , thus, lowering the duration of outage period, the governor said.

The $135mn-grant is set to be provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

On other side, Chairman of power sector at Daimeetta added that a Japanese mission visited the sector to study operation process of the automatic system.

He added that works at the upgrading project are expected to start in September 2016.

JICA is a governmental agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan.
