Johns Hopkins University director: May 1 will be too soon for the U.S. to reopen

Dr. Tom Inglesby, director of the Center for Health Security at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said on Sunday that it would be too soon for the U.S. to reopen on May 1.

Parts of the country may be able to reopen in May if there is enough testing available and if the number of cases plateau, Inglesby told Chris Wallace on Fox News.

“It’s important to know that the U.S. has more cases than any country in the world and no country has reopened all together in the way that is being considered.” he said.

When social-distancing restrictions due to coronavirus are eased, Inglesby said: “we need to be very careful. Because if we’re not careful, we’ll recreate the conditions that existed back in early March.”
