Kandil Seeks World Bank’s Help To Upgrade Egypt’s Railway System

Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil said Egypt is seeking to receive World Bank’s assistance to upgrade its antiquated railway system and to restore the smuggled funds.

During meeting with World Bank Executive Director Mirza Hasan along with Egyptian ministers of Planning, International Cooperation and of Finance, Kandil has identified a number of high priority fields which would need the WB’s support.

One of the most major fields the Prime Minister tackled is to upgrade Egypt’s railway system through providing safety and security requirements and increasing the workers’ capabilities. The Prime Minister has asked the World Bank for providing also high-level technical experts to take part in projects of the country’s railway system upgrades.

Furthermore, Dr. Kandil told Dr. Mirza Hasan – World Bank Executive Director – that his government is working hard to secure basic needs of citizens and enhance services. The WB can offer financial assistance to support the state budget and contribute to a number of the service projects in impoverished areas, notably extending drinking water to villages.

From his side, Dr. Mirza Hasan has emphasized on the World Bank’s keenness to help Egypt in facing the current challenges.

“Egypt’s security is integral to the region’s stability.” Hassan acknowledged

The meeting also focused on benefiting from WB expertise to restore Egypt’s stolen fund, said Cabinet Spokesman Alaa Hadidi.
