Lafarge says to build waste recycling plant in Egypt

France’s Lafarge is planning to build a new waste recycling plant in Egypt, with investments worth around 150 million Egyptian pounds ($16.8 million), an official said Monday.

The anticipated plant dedicated for waste recycling will be used as an alternative source for energy, Samar Raouf, Director of Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainable Development at Lafarge Egypt, stated.

Lafarge Egypt is looking forward to increasing its dependence on alternative energy in its plant in Suez by 20 percent from 14 percent, Raouf told Amwal Al Ghad.

“We are now conducting several studies to select the site of the new plant, which will likely be in Suez next to our current plant there.” She said.

Lafarge Egypt expects to complete the construction works and operate the new plant within two years from now, Raouf added.
