Leather Tanning Chamber sees $191.6mn exports at year-end

The Leather Tanning Chamber of the Egyptian Industries Federation is targeting exports worth 1,5 billion Egyptian pounds (US$191,6 million) by the end of 2015 said, chairman Mohamed Harbey said Monday.

Harby said leather exports have declined lately, however there was a turning point at the beginning of 2015 that would contribute to stabilizing the volume of exports to the same level of the last year.

Speaking to Amwal Al Ghad Monday, the Egyptian official said the decline in volume of leather exports was due to the lower euro prices in Europe, where top importers from Egypt are.

Harbey criticized the minister of industry’s decree to reshuffle the Leather Export Council, saying the new council includes only traders and those who are not working in the industry anymore.
