Masked Group Attacks Police In Sinai’s Rafah

An unknown armed group fired at the Central Security Forces camp in the Ahrash district in Rafah, North Sinai on Sunday.

According to the Ahram Arabic news website, the attackers fled when the police fired back. However, no casualties were reported.

The attackers were reportedly masked and drove a van equipped with machine-guns on its roof.

The Sinai Peninsula, a largely desert area bordering Israel, has been the site of several attacks by unknown assailants.

On 3 November three policemen were killed and three injured near the Egypt-Israel border.

A few days later, on 6 November, a senior officer from the Ministry of Interior’s General Security was seriously injured after receiving two bullets, one in his jaw and another in his left arm, from an attack by unknown assailants.
