MCIT seeks to contribute 9 % in the GDP by FY2020

Communication and Information Technology sector seeks to contribute the country’s growth domestic product by 9 percent by financial year 2020, Minister of MCIT said.

He added during the Euromoney Egypt Conference 2019 that his ministry is focusing on supporting youth of highest calibers and allows young people to be exposed to new technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain.

Talaat  further noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has launched a program to train more than 10,000 students during the past year,  in addition the building a new university specialized in IT and a new R&D center for applied research in the new capital specialized in Internet of Things, blockchain among others in order to invest in the human capital and skills.

He also stressed that MCIT focuses on providing the required digital infrastructure in conjunction with developing the the reliance on information technology while providing government services to citizens.

Talaat also added that his ministry aims to increase the speed of the internet from 5.5MG to 11MG per second in september while reaching  20MG/second by end of year.

MCIT is are working also with smartphone manufacturers to launch programs that enable more people to acquire smart phones growing from 5.5 to 11.5%, Talaat added.

He added that Egypt will be holding an international conference for Radio communications in Sharm El sheikh next October.
