Morgan Freeman in Egypt to film ‘The Story of God’

American actor Morgan Freeman arrived in Cairo on Sunday for a five-day visit to Egypt to shoot scenes for the upcoming National Geographic series “The Story of God,” which he is hosting.

The famous actor arrived in a private jet to Terminal 4 at Cairo International airport along with his filming crew that reportedly had about half a ton of filming equipment for shooting the series.

Freeman, who was spotted walking in several places in Cairo on Monday, is scheduled to visit important historic landmarks in Cairo such as the Pyramids of Giza, as well as significant heritage sites in Luxor.

Egypt was not the first or last stop in the Middle East for Freeman however, as he had just landed from Turkey where he also shot scenes for the series in a heritage site in the Central Anatolian province of Konya. The actor is also reportedly heading to Israel on Oct. 23.

The actor is exploring different religions all over the world for “The Story of God”, a documentary on the ideas of religion and deities, their origins and evolvement.

And what better place to explore the idea of religion than the Middle East, the birthplace of the world’s most populous faiths?

The series is exploring these ideas through Freeman, who will reflect on God, provide his own personal opinions on religion and become the subject of scientific experiments that will study the relationship between neuroscience and cosmology in the “traditional domain of religion.”

“The story of God is one of the greatest mysteries and most important ideas in the world,” Freeman said back in June when National Geographic Channel announced that he would be hosting the series.

“For me, this is a personal and enduring quest to understand the divine, and I am humbled by the opportunity to take viewers along on this incredible journey.”

The series will air in 2016 on National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Mundo both in the United States and in 171 other countries in 45 languages.
