New 30 June Extension To Connect East Port Said, Sinai, Delta Governorates

The Ministry of Housing completed a study to add a new extension to the 30 June Suez Canal Axis, the two-way axis parallel to the Suez Canal, which is currently being implemented.

The study will be presented to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Defence for approval, where the aim of the new extension is to connect the Sinai and East Port Said area with Delta governorates through the axis.

In addition, it aims to reduce the travelling time between Sinai and the Delta by about 60 minutes, according to the Ministry of Housing press statement Sunday.

Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, Mohammed Nasser, said that the new extension is designed to connect Sinai and East Port Said with Delta governorates specifically the cities of Mansoura, Gamaliya, and Matariya and the Daqahleya governorate, through the 30 June Axis.

Nasser added that the proposed extension will achieve important goals, notably easy access between the Delta governorates with the Sinai and Suez Canal governorates, which will speed up the process of settlement in Sinai.

Moreover, it aims to facilitate the daily transfer of labour from Delta governorates to industrial zones in the Canal cities, as the distance of  85 km will be decreased. In addition, it will reduce traffic on agricultural roads connecting the Delta with Cairo.

Nasser noted that the extension will easily control the security in the areas of north and south of the extension, which is considered a haven for outlaws.

“The proposed study were presented in detail to the Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly, before being presented to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Defence to approve, in preparation for submission for final approval from the Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb,” said Nasser. ” The study has been conducted with help from specialists and professors of the Roads , Transport and Traffic Engineering department at Ain Shams University, and the work on the extension will start  immediately after the approval.”

The project is included in the national plan for developing Egypt’s roads network by November 2015. The plan contains three roads amongst the government’s endeavours to expand on developments in Egypt.
