No Egyptian Victims In Boston Bombing: Ambassador To US

No Egyptians were injured or killed in Monday’s Boston Marathon bombing, Egyptian Ambassador to the US Mohamed Tawfiq announced Tuesday.

“None of the injured are from Boston’s Egyptian community,” said Tawfiq.

He went on to say that the embassy had contacted all Egyptian nationals registered with the embassy in the Boston area to confirm the absence of casualties.

Tawfiq added that the embassy was in contact with local authorities in Boston.

The bombing left at least three people dead and 140 injured. The perpetrator – or perpetrators – has yet to be unidentified.

While there are no official statistics, Egyptian nationals resident in the US are estimated at roughly one million.

In February, government statistics agency CAPMAS stated that some 8 million Egyptians were currently living overseas.
