NU Lectures Take Place in Tents

Nile University (NU) students have started the new academic year by having lectures in the tents held in the headquarters which is subject to dispute between the university and Zewail City for Science and Technology.

Dr. Tarek Khalil, Nile University President, confirmed that lectures are held at the tents, noting that students are sometimes transferred to the university’s headquarters in smart village in case that the lectures have to be conducted in a laboratory.

He added to Amwal Al Ghad that NU will respond to the statements made by Dr. Ahmed Zewail on the Egyptian television via a TV interview to be aired at the same time. He further explained that he has received no calls from Zewail for holding negotiations regarding the UN’s headquarter located in Sheikh Zayed.

Zewail stated that all what has been written or broadcasted about the crisis of NU is devoid of truth and was not meant to resolve the issue, saying: ” I have a strong feeling that I was not at all part of the Problem of NU with the Egyptian government.”

In his speech to the Egyptian people broadcasted on “Studio 27”, Egyptian Satallite Channel, Zewail blamed the media’s tackling this issue saying “they have used my name to launch a media campaign,” describing what happened from some media as “illegal and immoral.” He further added that “NU is still a private university up till now,” pointing out that the number of senior students is less than 90 and that the university has a very limited number of specializations. He also stressed that “this crisis has two dimensions; legal and humane.”
