NU President Resigns, Rejects Proposed Solution

Dr. Tarek Khalil, Nile University (NU) President, confirmed that he has submitted his resignation yesterday, stating that the buildings offered by the Ministry of Higher Education to the University instead of the buildings allocated to Zewail City for Science and Technology are not even appropriate to be used by “secondary school students” He explained that these buildings are not equipped cannot be used in the researches and ongoing projects of NU.

Mostafa Mosa’ad, Minister of Higher Education, mentioned in his yesterday statements that a ministerial committee including the ministers of housing, justice,communications, and himself, has been formed to discuss the issue of NU. The committee has decided to provide NU students wit buildings in the 6th of October City, fully equipped with all utilities to be needed by any scientific institution. Whereas Khalil noted that the students’ parents were not satisfied with the buildings, Mosa’ad testified to the contrary.

In a statement to Amwal Al Ghad, Khalil added that his resignation comes as an objection to the forceful termination of the sit-in led by NU students since two days, noting that President Mohamed Morsi did not respond to request presented by the university’s Board of Trustees, demanding his intervention in this issue.
