Number of Italian tourists visiting Egypt rises 40% in 2019 – minister

Egypt witnessed an increase in the number of tourists visiting the country, supported by political stability, Tourism Minister Rania Al-Mashat, said on Monday.

The number of tourists visiting the North African nation has significantly improved, especially the number of Italian tourists which rose by 40% year-on-year in 2019, Al-Mashat noted.

The tourism sector accounts for 20% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and has the potential to create direct and indirect jobs, she revealed.

For every one direct job created by the tourism sector, three other jobs will be created indirectly, the minister added.
