Chinese smartphone maker OPPO has donated 5 million Egyptian pounds ($316,732) to support irregular workers in Egypt, who are affected by the coronavirus pandemic, its public relations head said on Sunday.
The pandemic has affected around 300,000 workers in the informal sector who are not registered on social insurance rolls.
The money will go for buying and distributing food supplies to the workers’ families in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, said Marwa Mounir, director of public relations at OPPO Egypt.
OPPO currently captures 26.8 percent of the smartphone market share in Egypt, Mounir said, citing the latest data released by GfK.
