Orascom Construction, Bombardier, Arab contractors start Egypt’s $4.5 billion monorail project

Egypt’s Orascom Construction, Arab Contractors, and Canada’s Bombardier Transportation laid the first stone of Egypt’s $4.5 billion monorail project, which will connect East Cairo to the new capital, according to a company statement.

The company did not disclose the expected timeline for completing the project.

The Orascom-Bombardier-Arab Contractors consortium finalised last year the monorail agreement with the National Authority for Tunnels.

The agreement will see the consortium design, build, supply and operate the lines, which will link Sixth of October City to Giza and Nasr City to the new administrative capital.

The consortium will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of both lines for 30 years and will design and build all infrastructure and civil works, including stations, guideway structures and new depot buildings
