Over 41,000 Egyptians, Foreigners Visited Giza Pyramids During Eid Holidays

A total of 41,042 Egyptian and foreign tourists visited the Giza Pyramids during the three days of Eid holidays, head of the Cairo and Giza Central Administration for Antiquities Kamal Wahid told MENA on Sunday.

The majority of visitors were Egyptians, with over 37,000 visitors, while a little over 3000 foreigners visited the ancient site.

The site, the only survivor of the old seven wonders of the old world, located 25 kilometers southwest of the capital, contains the three pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, as well as the Sphinx and ancient tombs.

The Islamic Eid feast is a three-day celebration that follows the month of Ramadan.

Egypt’s tourism sector, which took a blow following the 2011 uprising, has seen a relative recovery in the last year receiving 9.9 million tourists in 2014, up from 9.5 million in 2013.
