Port Said Clashes Leave Three Killed, 30 Injured

Clashes in Port Said between supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi and his opponents on Sunday left three dead and 30 wounded, announced the health ministry as reported by the state news agency on Monday.

A health official said that two were killed after being shot and the third was burned to death after some protesters set fire to a perfume store that they believed was a Muslim Brotherhood property.

The clashes resulted in wounds ranging from birdshot and bullet injuries to stab wounds and burn injuries on both sides.

Confrontations erupted on Sunday between the political rivals erupted during a funeral for a man who was killed at a pro-Morsi protest.

An eyewitness told Aswat Masriya that supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi opened fire on Mar Girgis Church as mourners passed through.

They also destroyed a police vehicle while tearing down posters of top army commander Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the eyewitness added.

Supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi have rallied for about a month now to demand that their democratically elected president be reinstated.

Egypt’s army ousted the Islamist president on July 3 following massive demonstrations.
