Russian experts to visit Egypt to asses its airport security

Russian experts will travel to Egypt to work on strengthening aviation security, after which Moscow may remove its flights ban on the country, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich announced Thursday.

On November 6, Russia suspended air travel with Egypt following a Russian A321 crash over Sinai Peninsula, which claimed the lives of 224 people.

“Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered for our experts to be sent to Egypt to work with their Egyptian counterparts to discuss… ways to improve the security and the participation of our specialists in the control systems in the coming weeks, even in the absence of air travel from Russia and to Russia,” Dvorkovich said at a briefing.

Dvorkovich added that work to implement the audit team’s recommendations to strengthen security systems is already under way. Its results may lead to a decision to resume air travel between Russia and Egypt.
