Scuffles During Trial Of Officers Accused Of Killing Protesters – Alexandria

Scuffles escalated between protesters and security forces in front of Alexandria’s Court on Saturday.

The protesters who rallied in solidarity with the families of the martyrs clashed with Egyptian security forces when they prevented them from attending the trial of the officers accused of killing protesters during the 2011 uprising.

Meanwhile, a number of former state security officials are standing trial at an Alexandria court of first instance on charges of killing and injuring more than 85 protesters and the attempted murder in the events of the uprising.

A witness told Aswat Masriya that the scuffles are due to the protesters’ objection to the slow pace of the trial.

Corniche Road was closed as protesters hurled stones at security forces who responded by attacking them with sticks.
