Security Forces Arrest 36 More Brotherhood Members

A security source stated on Tuesday that not less than 36 members of the Muslim Brotherhood including leaders have been recently arrested.

In statements published in Ahram Arabic news website earlier Wednesday, security sources said most of the detained work at the administrative offices of the Muslim Brotherhood, and have been arrested for involvement in recent bloody clashes including at Al Nahda square in Giza.

Earlier on Wednesday, famous Islamist preacher Safwat Hegazy was arrested on his way to the Siwa oasis in Egypt’s western desert.

Hegazy was arrested while disguised as a Bedouin.

Hegazy, who was widely accused of incitement against the Muslim Brotherhood’s opponents as well Christians and the Egyptian army, has been accused of murder, torture and incitement to violence.

Also on Wednesday, Mourad Ali, a Muslim Brotherhood member and media advisor of the Freedom and Justice Party, was arrested at Cairo International Airport on his way to Rome.

Late on Monday, Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie was also arrested. He is expected to stand trial on 25 August with five other leading Brotherhood figures, including Deputy Guide Khairat El-Shater, on charges of inciting murder at the Brotherhood headquarters clashes last June.

Earlier this week, a top Muslim Brotherhood member, Ahmed Abu Baraka, said that more than 400 leading members have been arrested since the dispersal of Pro-Morsi sit-ins at Al Nahda and Rabaa squares on 14 August.
