SIG launches recycling initiative in Egypt

Switzerland packaging company SIG has launched an initiative (Recycle for Good) to enable direct household and food service industry collection of used aseptic carton packs through tech-based solutions, according to its statement on Tuesday.

The project aims to encourage the recycling of used beverage cartons, ensuring valuable resources they remain in circulation while benefiting the local communities.

Moreover, the consumers can use a mobile application to arrange an appointment to collect the used cardboard waste from their homes or workplaces in exchange for rewards.

This initiative is between SIG and the Egyptian company Tagaddod which pioneering renewable Energy and waste management, is considers the first of its kind in the Egyptian market.

The initiative uses Tagaddod’s existing logistics network, and household brand Green Pan to collect the cartons.

The campaign aims to change people’s behaviour by emphasizing the benefits that recycling results in for individuals and societies, SIG’s general manager Abdul Ghani Al-Adeeb, said.

Al-Adeeb continued that the initiative represents an important turning point for the country in its relentless quest to contribute to a circular economy.

Noteworthy, that 60 percent of waste in Egypt generates annually is collected currently, and less than 20 percent of this is properly disposed of or recycled.
