Sisi Asks Interior Minister to Combat Sexual Harassment

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has asked Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim to abide by the rule of law and take whatever procedures necessary to combat sexual harassment, the presidency’s spokesman said.

The move has come in response to a graphic YouTube video that has gone viral since uploaded late on Sunday that showed a mob sexually assaulting a woman and stripping her off her clothes at pro-Sisi celebrations following his inauguration on Sunday.

The spokesman added that Sisi has also honored a policeman who rescued a woman from a sexual harassment incident at the iconic Tahrir Square.

A prosecutor has ordered that six people be kept in custody for four days pending investigations into the case.
