Sisi talks mutual ties with Germany’s Merkel at G20

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed bilateral ties with German Chancellor Angela Merkel when the two leaders met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in China, Egypt’s state news agency MENA reported.

During the talks early on Monday in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, the two officials also discussed international issues of mutual interest, MENA added.

In his address to the summit leaders on Monday, El-Sisi stressed the need for the G20 group’s work plan to include the restoration of stolen state funds and assets, which has contributed to the problems of Egypt’s economy.

He also called for integrating the economies of developing countries into the global economy.

“Egypt has always demanded that international economic and financial governance reflect the increasing contribution of developing countries to the world economy and their effective participation in the international economic and financial decision-making,” El-Sisi was quoted as saying by MENA.

El-Sisi will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe later on Monday.

This is the third time El-Sisi has visited China since he came to office in mid-2014; his previous trips were in December 2014 and September 2015.
