Sugar reserve is sufficient until next May: Egypt’s Supply

Egypt’s strategic reserve of sugar is safe and sufficient until next May, Spokesman of Supply Ministry, Ibrahim Amer told Amwal Al Ghad on Thursday.

The official stated that state’s grain buyer General Authority For Supply Commodities (GASC) signed contracts Wednesday to import 55,000 tonnes of sugar from Brazil to be delivered during 7-20 January 2017 among ministry’s plan to provide strategic reserve of basic commodities.

Amer asserted that Egypt consumes around 3.1 million tonnes of sugar annually while the local production covers 75 percent of market’s needs.
