The Egyptian Satellite “MisrSat-2” successfully launches into space

The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) announced on Wednesday the successful launch of the new “MisrSat-2” from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre  in China. The project came amid the recent technical and economic cooperation agreement between the two countries.

The satellite was manufactured by both Egyptian space engineers from the EgSA and Chinese experts.

The Egyptian team have succeeded in developing one of the key components of the satellite, making it the first Egyptian-made product to launch into space.

Besides, prior to the successful production of the MisrSat-2, the tests and assembly of the different potential models were all done at the Egyptian Assembly, Integration and Test Centre at the Egyptian Space Agency, which was established under strategic cooperation between Egypt and China, and is the largest in Africa and the Middle East.

Sherif Sedky, Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Space Agency, confirmed that the “MisrSat-2” entered the orbit assigned to it, 830 seconds after launch, adding that immediately after entering orbit it was disconnected and checked on its performance. Also, recently several data were received from the ground station in Egypt.

He further explained that communication with the satellite will continue as part of the continuation of testing operations.

About MisrSat-2 satellite:

The new MisrSat-2 satellite will serve the Egyptian sustainable plans through the use of space technology in the development of vital fields, including, but not limited to agriculture, exploration of mineral resources, finding underground water sources, and tracking the effects of climate change on the environment.

Moreover, it will enhance Egypt’s leading role by providing training programmes aimed at qualifying specialised cadres in the African continent and the Middle East and supplying them with space data.
