Top Suez governorate official arrested on bribery charges: Egypt ACA

Egypt’s Administrative Control Authority (ACA) said Saturday that a Suez governorate official was arrested while receiving a bribe for illegally issuing construction and quarry licenses.

In a statement, the ACA said the top official was arrested Friday while he received the bribe from a constructor.

According to investigations, he illegally leaked information on the estimated value of a tender for one of the governorate’s portions of land with a value of 188 million pounds.

The ACA is responsible for enforcing laws and regulations within state bodies, including identifying possible cases of corruption and referring them for prosection.

In the past year, the ACA has referred several state officials to prosecution on bribery charges.

Last December, Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi stressed the importance of fighting corruption, hailing the ACA’s role. Source: Ahram online
