Trade Centre Bridges Project 50 Per Cent Complete-RTA

Almost half of the Trade Centre Bridges Project has been completed and is on track for the November 2013 completion target date, a senior Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official announced yesterday.

The Project comprises the construction of 22 precast concrete bridges, as well as another 120 metre-long concrete bridge added to serve traffic outbound to Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge and parallel roads.

“The Trade Centre Bridges Project, which costs about Dh719.37 million, is by far the largest phase of the Parallel Roads Project which is one of the mega road projects undertaken by the RTA that aims at linking the Western Parallel Road with Shaikh Rashid Road at Lamcy Plaza complex in a 312 metre-long road passing by the World Trade Centre,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA,

The project will serve traffic passing along Trade Centre towards Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges as well as the Dubai-Al Ain Road. It will also serve trucks moving from Rashid Port heading towards the Dubai-Al Ain Road.

The RTA has already accomplished key phases of the Parallel Roads Project, including the opening of the initial phase which also comprises the construction of roads at Al Barsha and Al Quoz Industrial and Residential areas spanning Hissa Road in the south and Meydan Road in the north extending 15km on the Eastern Parallel Road and 18km on the Western Parallel Road.

The RTA has also opened several key roads in the Business Bay area between Shaikh Zayed Road to the north, Meydan Road to the west, Financial Centre Road to the east and Al Khail Road to the south.

“Work is up and running in the completion of road works under Phase III (A) of the Parallel Roads Project in the area between Jumeirah Lakes Towers; which link new property developments in the area to the south of Shaikh Zayed Road between Interchanges 5 and 5.5. The project includes the construction of a 10km-long road of three lanes in each direction. Work is also progressing in Phase IV of the Project which serves Jebel Ali Free Zone, Al Maktoum Airport and the Industrial Area. This phase also comprises the construction of roads extending 22km with four lanes in each direction on the Eastern and Western Parallel Roads,” said Al Tayer.
