Trade ministry plans boosting Egypt leather exports to US$1bn annually

Exports of Egyptian leather sector are expected to reach US$1 billion per years after completing Al Robeky zone for leather tanneries, Trade And Industry Minister Tarek Qabil stated Thursday.

In 2015, exports of leather sector estimated at US$200 million, the minister said.

Qabil noted that the Cabinet recently approved allocating around 1,000 housing units in Badr city for workers who are set to be relocated from Magra El Oyon region to Al-Robeky industrial zone.

Qabil made these remarks during his visit to Al Robeky zone in Badr industrial city to showcase latest developments in the project.

On other side, Qabil clarified that the ministry recently contracted with 10 international firms to supply 16 machines. The new machines are set to be delivered during three months.

Qabil added that Egypt agreed with three global companies to provide machines necessary for transporting goods besides agreeing with another Japanese firm to supply Egypt with four machines.
