Trade ministry plans raising non-oil exports to $30bn by 2020: Egypt’s Qabil

Egyptian Trade and Industry Ministry plans doubling state’s non-petroleum exports to around US$30 billion before the end of 2020, Minister Tarek Qabil announced Friday.

He made these remarks during the Second Egyptian Date Palm Festival that took place in Siwa Oasis from 27-29 October 2016.

The fair was attended by Egyptian Agriculture Minister Essam Fayed and Emirati Ambassador to Cairo, Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi.

Egypt exports 2.7 percent of its dates production although it produces 18 percent of the global dates production, the minister noted.

He clarified that the ministry plans raising Egypt’s dates exports to US$200 million annually.

Within the last months of 2016, Egypt’s dates exports witnessed a 39 percent increase, Qabil noted.
