Trump tells Egypt: We highly respect peace-loving Muslims

Donald Trump met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in New York on Tuesday to discuss a future partnership to defeat radical Islamic terrorism and other foreign affairs.

“Mr. Trump emphasized to President el-Sisi his high regard for peace-loving Muslims and understands that every day there are people of goodwill that sacrifice their lives and fortunes to combat the growing threat of radical Islamic terrorism,” according to a campaign statement issued late Monday.

The GOP nominee reiterated the U.S. and Egypt share a common enemy in radical Islamic terrorism, “not only politically and militarily, but also addressing the ideology.”

Trump also assured el-Sisi that if elected president, “the United States of America will be a loyal friend, not simply an ally, that Egypt can count on in the days and years ahead.”

El-Sisi was in Manhattan visiting the UN General Assembly, and also met with Trump’s wing men, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions and retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn. Trump praised el-Sisi and the Egyptian people for defending their country from radical Islamic takeovers in recent years, emphasizing the U.S.-Egypt relationship as “vital” to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.

It was the second meeting with a foreign leader for the businessman-turned-politician, who met with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto last month.

Trump told el-Sisi he will host him at the White House and visit Egypt if he wins in November.
