Turkey’s BOTAS, Egypt’s EGAS agree to boost co-operation

Turkey’s state energy company BOTAS said on Thursday it had held talks with Egypt’s state-run natural gas company EGAS on the sidelines of the visit of Turkish President Receb Tayyip Erdogan‘s current visit to Cairo.

According to BOTAS’ statement, the two companies agreed to boost co-operation. Within this framework, BOTAS and EGAS “held discussions on natural gas and LNG trading opportunities, co-operation on natural gas infrastructure and underground storages, sharing of technical information and experience.”

“The purpose is to support the energy security of our country and our region through the concrete steps to be taken in the forthcoming period by the parties on the issues discussed.” the statement added.

In his first visit in more than a decade, Erdogan said on Wednesday in a joint news conference with his counterpart President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi that the two countries were evaluating energy cooperation.
