Twitter will remove legacy checkmarks on 20/04 – Musk

Elon Musk, Twitter CEO, said that the platform will remove the legacy blue checkmarks of the 20th of April, according to his announcement on Tuesday.

If the move works, Twitter will only have verification marks for paid users, businesses, and government entities and officials.

The company announced last month that the legacy checkmarks will be removed on the 1st of April, however, the date passed by and nothing happened.

“I think the media is a driver of misinformation much more than the media would like to admit that they are” Musk said in an interview to BBC on Tuesday when asked about how he thinks taking away the verification marks will impact misinformation.

Musk took away the New York Times’ verification mark earlier that month after the publication entity refused to pay for it.
